CHAPTER 01
Meet Bella.
Bella is a 7-year-old Staffie cross we rescued in 2019. Scruffy, loud, devoted to cheese. She was the happiest dog we'd ever known — until she wasn't.

CHAPTER 02
The emergency.
September 2023. Bella stopped eating. Wouldn't drink. Curled into herself and hid. By the time we got to the emergency vet, her pancreas was inflamed, her enzymes were through the roof. Acute pancreatitis. She stayed in hospital for four nights.
VET — hospital visit
CHAPTER 03
"There's no cure."
The vet said: manage it with low-fat food, avoid triggers, hope for the best. Every commercial low-fat food we tried was either packed with fillers, rejected by Bella, or both. One brand had more preservatives than protein. We started cooking for her ourselves.
KITCHEN — home cooking
CHAPTER 04
The turnaround.
Within three weeks of a clean, low-fat, protein-first diet, Bella's appetite came back. Her coat started shining again. She chased a ball for the first time in months. Our vet was stunned — her enzymes had normalised.
BELLA — recovered, playing
CHAPTER 05
"Can I buy this for my dog?"
Word got around. Friends with sick dogs, dogs with allergies, dogs who just ate terrible kibble. We started cooking bigger batches, then bigger, then renting commercial kitchen space in Sandton. A vet nutritionist joined us. Then a food scientist. Then a delivery van.

FreshBark was born.
Today FreshBark delivers across Gauteng. Six recipes. Hundreds of dogs. Every single bowl is built on the same principle that saved Bella: real food, made with science, made with love.
